Personal Notes : One of the tenets of Project Genesis Morocco has always been to generate renewable energy in quantities sufficient to offset for the energy cost of desalination. We could thus offset up to 50 percent of the cost of desalinating water, making it a viable long term solution for tapping in the remaining 97% of the water, at half the cost. The way to go for developing nations as ours and indeed for everyone, who would relish the opportunity of reducing the cost by 50%. It truly changes the scenario as the viability of the use of desalinated water for large scale agrarian purposes and my prognostic is that its a go, especially more so for micro irrigations exploitations.
Of course developing solar, wind, and sea energy to that extent requires investment, but where I want to get is that the byproducts escalate in their worth, energy as a raw material or refined into hydrogen could be exported , and used to power desalination stations thus allowing for the use and export of water either as a raw material or making it enter the food production chain through micro irrigation in the most unlikely of places, the arid regions of our Southern provinces. Even beyond deeper in the desert, thus making possible its long lasting colonization.
Yes indeed I do believe that water is the new gold, and that any efficiencies in reducing its cost and carbon footprint are greatly desirable.
